Healthy sprinklers, healthier landscapes.
You don’t need a full landscape makeover to save water. A few small sprinkler fixes can make a big difference in water use and plant health.
Fix Leaks & Broken Heads
A single broken sprinkler can waste tens of thousands of gallons of water over a season.
Adjust Sprinkler Direction
If you’re watering sidewalks, driveways, or fences, that water is being wasted instead of helping your yard.
Water at the Right Time
Water early in the morning. Less water will evaporate, so more reaches your plants.
Water Less Often
Using more water doesn’t make plants healthier. Watering deeply but less often helps roots grow stronger.
Don’t “Set It and Forget It”
Your yard’s needs change during the season. Check and adjust your system as weather changes.
Are you overwatering?
Why does it matter?
Healthy sprinklers help your landscape get the water it needs without wasting water through leaks, clogged or broken heads, overspray, or uneven coverage. Keeping your sprinkler system in good shape means using water more efficiently and helping your landscape thrive with every drop.
Frequently Asked Questions
You should begin cutting back to once a week starting September 15th and then completely stop by October 15th.
Your water provider may ask you to stop watering or even shut outside irrigation off earlier than October 15th, in which case you should follow their direction.
Weather conditions and seasonality may impact your watering needs. In general, we recommend using the “cycle and soak” method for lawn. Set each zone for half the time needed, run all zones, then run each station a second time. This minimizes water runoff.
We are asking everyone to please wait until at least May 15th to water outdoors.
Unusually high water bills can be a sign of a water leak or a change in your water use habits. View a dashboard of your daily water use and analytics at mywater.jvwcd.gov. If you suspect that there has been an error with your bill, please call Customer Service to have your meter checked.
